While Andrea Bocelli is the most famous singer in his family, it seems his children are fighting for his title. His son Matteo is a performer, having recorded a song with him on his 2018 album Si. Andrea also has two other children, Virginia and Amos, but has he performed with them as well?
Andrea Bocelli is keen to get all of his children performing, even his youngest child, Virginia.
Virginia is nine-years-old but is already getting up on stage to perform with her father.
This weekend, Andrea performed with Virginia and his son Matteo, with whom he has performed many times.
At the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra in Saudi Arabia, Andrea sang Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah with Virginia, as well as also taking to the stage with Matteo at the intimate concert.
The performance in AlUla marks the first time Andrea has taken to the stage with his son and daughter.
He said of the performance: “Our planet is beautiful and music is the world’s great unifier so this moment for us has been about spreading a little joy as we all see the light at the end of the tunnel and look forward to enjoying music together again soon.
“To be here creating a piece of history in such an inspirational setting so rich in human ingenuity, heritage and culture is truly a moment we will never forget.”
Andrea has performed this song with Virginia before while promoting his 2020 album Believe.
He said of singing with Virginia: “It was a true Christmas present that Virginia gifted to me.”
As well as this, Andrea and Matteo recorded the song Fall On Me for Andrea’s 2018 album Si, and it was a big success for the pair as well as introducing the world to Matteo’s voice.
Speaking in 2018 on the US-based TV show This Morning, Andrea revealed he only realised his singing genes extended to Matteo in 2016.
He told host Gayle King: “Because he stayed at the piano, he knows music just for this.
“And one time his mother came to me and said, ‘Have you heard Matteo sing?’ And I said no.
“And she said, ‘Listen to him because he’s very nice’”.
Speaking to Billboard about his son’s voice, and how they worked together, Andrea said: “Technically they are very different, but there is one thing that makes them most similar: the attitude.
“That characteristic way of expressing yourself through your voice.
“This makes Matteo and I very similar. But that is something that you cannot learn, that cannot be taught. That is something you are born with.”
Andrea’s eldest son, Amos, was not involved in any of these performances and is not a singer like his father.
Amos is a pianist but has performed with Andrea before, once notably when the Italian tenor sang Elvis Presley’s famous song Love Me Tender in 2013.
Given Andrea’s track record for bringing his children on stage, it would not be surprising to see every Bocelli child on stage together soon.
