Conor McGregor labelled a ‘high-end prostitute’ ahead of UFC 264 | UFC | Sport

Conor McGregor was mocked by the manager of his former nemesis as the Irishman continues his preparation for his latest UFC main event.

McGregor will take on rival Dustin Porier in the headline bout at UFC 264, which takes place on July 10 in Las Vegas.

The anticipation is high for the trilogy bout, with both men holding one win over the other, and a likely title shot at newly-crowned UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira up for grabs for the winner.

But the manager of former undisputed UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov issued a stinging assessment of McGregor’s current status in the UFC, saying he has now been reduced to the role of an expensive sideshow.

“Now you have McGregor fighting Dustin Poirier, probably McGregor’s going to quit again, he’s a quitter,” Abdelaziz told Mike Tyson on the boxing legend’s “Hotboxin'” podcast.

“To me, he’s irrelevant. He’s like a high-end prostitute. Now people want to go out on a date with him, to show, ‘hey, I have a pretty girl with me.’

“He’s the pretty girl, and after that you can go show the other girls and say, ‘hey, I got this beautiful girl, you wanna date me?’

“That means fighters, they fight him, they get this clout fighting Conor McGregor. But they don’t understand Conor McGregor hasn’t won in three years. He’s a high-price hooker.”

While Abdelaziz’s comment about McGregor’s form isn’t accurate – he defeated Donald Cerrone in just 40 seconds at UFC 246 in January 2020, the Irishman has struggled for form since being stripped of the UFC featherweight and lightweight belts for failing to defend either title.

His lone win at 155 pounds came in his title victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016, and his two outings at lightweight since then, against Khabib and Poirier, both ended in stoppage defeats.

According to Abdelaziz, McGregor is now an also-ran in the division, and will be used as a target for up-and-coming fighters looking to make their names by facing him, and predicted he would soon turn his attention back to boxing, where celebrity matchups with the likes of Jake Paul could deliver huge paydays, but without the high-level competition of a top-level UFC fight.

“You make money when you fight Conor McGregor, because he’s a draw. But how long is that going to last for?” he asked.

“Him and Dustin Poirier, I like Dustin, but both looked like s*** (in their rematch).

“The McGregor thing is finished. McGregor now is going to be fighting Jake Paul, the Kardashians, he’s gonna fight chicks… That’s what’s going on.”
