When One Direction were at the height of their careers, they could not go anywhere without being chased by hundreds of fans. Whether they were being followed through airports or to their hotels, Styles, Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik were always being watched by their beloved fanbase. Speaking in a new interview Horan explained how he once left a hotel secretly in the back of a van to dupe fans waiting for them.
Horan was speaking to Today’s Golfer about his time in the band and his passion for golf which still remains today.
The 27-year-old said: “We played quite a bit [of golf] together out on tour for a bit of downtime.
“Harry Styles was a pretty keen player at the time and the golf course was somewhere to chill out for us.
“The thing is, we’d sometimes have 4,000 or 5,000 people outside the hotel and I remember once in Rio de Janeiro time we ended up sneaking out and going in the back of a bread van!”
Horan added: “Often that was the only way of getting out of the hotel to see places or get a bit of golf in.”
The band were no strangers to hanging out in the back of vans, as revealed by Styles in 2019.
The Adore You star told Zane Lowe in 2019: “On the last two tours we bought this old surveillance van and converted it into a studio.
“It would follow the tour around, so at the venue you would go into this tiny little surveillance van with no air conditioning.”
Styles smiled: “It was crazy, It was fun to record it like that. But it was a totally different process.”
The two singers recently sparked the hopes of longtime 1D fans who spotted them out and about together.
The singers were seen in Los Angeles hanging out with masks on during a socially-distanced hike.
Both of the artists live in the LA area, so it is surprising they haven’t been seen together before.
The paparazzi shots of Styles and Horan together added to the rumours that One Direction will be getting back together with the rest of the band this year.
On top of fandom rumours suggesting the reunion is just around the corner, odds on the boy band getting back into the studio together have recently been slashed.
At the moment, Ladbrokes have a One Direction reunion in 2021 at 1/4.
It isn’t all good news, however, with the odds adding the likelihood of Malik returning to the band is slim.
Odds for Malik returning to the band with the rest of the former 1D members currently sits at 8/11.
Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “One Direction fans have a reunion to look forward to as early as this year if the latest odds are anything to go by!”
Last year was the band’s 10th anniversary, where each of the band members celebrated the legacy they created – however no reunion was announced or even teased.
Will fans get the reunion they have been hoping for before the year is out?
