The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have quickly started to make their own mark on the world away from the royals over the past few months, sparking vast amounts of scrutiny from royal watchers. They have participated in talks on topics such as Black Lives Matter and the importance of voting in the upcoming US elections in November. The pair have even made appearances in separate documentaries.
Prince Harry’s Rising Phoenix, a documentary about the Paralympic Games, is currently available on Netflix.
And Meghan previously teamed up with Disney to narrate Elephant, which was a documentary about the species for its Disney nature outlet.
But now they plan to create content for millions of viewers across the world that “gives hope”.
The deal will include documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
Meghan and Prince Harry explained: “Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.
“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.
“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.
“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”
A source revealed the Queen was not aware of the deal.
This did not help the fact that the deal was also not part of the agreement she made with her grandson and his wife when they stepped away from royal life.
The source told The Sun: “Harry did not inform the Queen about the Netflix deal.”
The 94-year-old is believed to have been told by her aides instead.
The source added: “Her view is simple: the royals are not for sale and danger surrounds high profile roles outside of the institution itself.
“But knowing her grandson Harry as she does, the Queen will know there would have been little chance of talking Harry and Meghan out of it.”
A source told The Mirror that the Sussexes agreed that any commercial deals would be subject to discussion.
