In recent years, Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Sir Elton John movie Rocketman have been big successes. And with Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic arriving next year, just who will get the big-screen treatment next? Well, now Sir Tom Jones has revealed he’s thinking about it.
Sir Tom Jones has been singing around the world for almost 60 years and alongside his incredible stardom has had quite the colourful private life which would surely make for a great movie.
The 80-year-old was asked when his movie biopic was coming by Alan Carr on his Life’s A Beach podcast.
The Welsh knight replied: “Well there’s been talk of it, yes. But then I’d have to tell-all.
“So I don’t think I’m ready to tell-all yet. Y’know what I mean, it’s one of those things. We’re thinking about it.”
Aside from his sexual antics, another area that a Tom Jones movie could explore are the long-dead stars he knew and worked alongside.
From singing with Janis Joplin to his friendship with Elvis Presley himself, the 80-year-old has many fascinating stories.
This Friday, Sir Tom is releasing a new album of cover tracks called Surrounded By Time.
So far the Welsh singer has released a number of singles from No Hole In My Head to One More Cup Of Coffee and Pop Star.
Announcing his new album earlier this year, Sir Tom wrote on Instagram: “Last year, during lockdown and after 5 years of enormous person changes, I finally found the need to express myself through my music.
“So I got into the studio with some great friends and musicians and created a new album! Who expects what is always so completely unexpected? My personal clock started ticketing in 1940, and with all the magnificent strangeness of life on this planet both speeding up and slowing down, the album is titled Surrounded By Time.”
The star shared how each song tells a story that comes from himself and reflects on his own experience at different times.
He added: “It’s been a helluva ride, and I am really, really proud of this. It’s a great listen and I hope you take a moment to give it some Time. Come along with me on this storybook ride…I guarantee you’ll love it! TOM.”
